Privacy Policy

Drop In ("we", "us") is a video hangout app. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices.

What we collect

• Account details: your display name, username, email address, and password. Passwords are stored only as a secure one-way hash; we can't see them. Your email is never shown to other people — we only use it to confirm your account, help you reset your password or find your username, and tell you about important account changes (like a password change).
• Profile photo (optional): if you add one, it's shown to your friends and to people in rooms with you. You can remove it any time.
• 3D avatar (optional): the look you choose for your character in 3D Arcade games, like hair, face, outfit and colors. It's shown to people you play with. You can change it any time.
• Messages: messages you send to a friend are stored so you can both see your conversation, along with when they were sent and read. Only you and that friend can see them in the app. They're deleted when either of you deletes your account.
• Group chats: the group's name, who's in it, and the messages sent there. Only the current members of a group can see its messages. When you leave a group you stop seeing it; your earlier messages stay in the group for the others until you delete your account.
• Photos in chats: photos you send in a chat are shrunk and stored so the people in that chat can see them. Each photo has a long, random private link that only people in the chat are given. They're deleted when you delete your account.
• Reactions: the emoji reactions you add to messages, shown to the people in that chat.
• Settings: your notification choices (for example, turning off alerts for messages or waves).
• Time together: how long you and each friend have hung out in rooms together, used for time streaks.
• Friends and safety data: who you're friends with, friend requests, people you block, reports you send, and any warnings you've received from us.
• Report evidence: when someone reports a person, we save a copy of what's needed to review it fairly: the reason and note they gave, the message they pointed to, the last 30 messages between the two of them, and the reported person's recent messages in group chats they share. Only Drop In's owner can see this, and only to decide what to do about the report. Video and audio are never recorded, so they're never part of a report.
• Notification tokens: if you allow notifications, device tokens so we can send you alerts (for example, when a friend waves at you) and ring your phone when a friend calls.
• Drop In Plus (if you join): whether you're a member, which plan, when it renews or ends, and the purchase reference Apple or Stripe gives us (to know the membership is yours). Payments are handled by Apple (in the iPhone app) or Stripe (on the website) — we never see or store your card details. Your Plus choices (like your name color or video backdrop) are shown to other people the way your profile is.
• Error reports: if something goes wrong in the app, it sends us a short technical report — the error message, the screen you were on, your device type (for example "iPhone, iOS 18"), the app version, and your account ID — so we can fix it. It never includes your messages, photos, video or audio.
• Basic technical data: your IP address is used briefly to protect against abuse (for example, limiting login attempts). It isn't stored with your account.

Video and audio

Video and audio go directly between the people in a room, encrypted. When a direct connection isn't possible, they pass through an encrypted relay server. We do not record, store, or listen to your calls. Game moves and drawings in rooms are only kept while the game is running.

How we use information

• To run the app: log you in, show you which friends are online, connect calls and games.
• To send notifications you've allowed.
• To keep people safe: review reports, warn people, and ban accounts that break our Terms. If we ban an account, we keep its email address and username so it can't sign up again.

We don't sell your information, show ads, or use it for tracking across other apps or websites.

Who can see what

Your friends can see your name, username, and when you're online and in which room. People in the same room can see and hear you. People you block can't see you online, add you, or join your rooms.

Service providers

We use hosting, database, video relay, email, payment and notification services (such as Render, Neon, Cloudflare, Metered, Resend, Apple, Stripe and Apple Push Notification service) to run Drop In. They process data only to provide those services.

Keeping and deleting your data

We keep your account until you delete it. You can delete your account at any time in the app: open In the house, tap ••• next to your name, then Settings › Delete account. This permanently removes your account, profile photo, 3D avatar, friends, blocks, and notification tokens. Your messages, group chat messages, photos, reactions and warnings are deleted too. Reports — including the saved copies of messages that were part of a report — may be kept to help keep the community safe.

Children

Drop In is not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date above and, for big changes, let you know in the app.
